Earnest reflections of the Northeast

1. The higher the population of a city there are disproportionately more scary bums talking to themselves in the park.

2. French-Canadians look just like us… but they speak FRENCH! I know… weird.

3. Somehow, some way, there is a Gay, Republican, Colt’s Fan,… from Boston.

4. Don’t expect to hear very much English being spoken in Washington D.C.

5. Sometimes it costs 8 fu@king dollars to cross a bridge. That is if you want the privilege of driving across Manhattan with every kind of idiot you can imagine.

6. Boston is an awesome town, I suggest you get drunk there.

7. Other than rich white people being oblivious to poverty and struggle, there is not much going on in Maine.

8. I am not sure how so many ‘antiques’ ended up in Vermont, but we mustn’t rule out theft or alien intervention.

9. All joking aside, traveling provides unforgettable life experiences and is rivaled only by the safety and comfort of what we left behind. I feel eternally torn between the unknown diversions of self-guided exploration and the warm comfort I find in sleeping in my bed and being at home with Fred and my dogs.

2008 Election Prediction

Photobucket

I know what you are thinking, Nevada?…Indiana?…Georgia! To that I say: “yes we can!”. A Survey USA poll released on June 23 of likely Indiana voters found that Barack Obama is in a statistical dead heat with McCain (48% / 47%), and even ahead by one point! Indiana has only voted for a Democrat once in the last 70 years, and that was LBJ in ‘64! I know that polls conducted in June can be unreliable in predicting November results, but unless John McCain can energize the religious right, I think that these polls will actually improve between now and November.

This site is great for up to date polling data by state.

In fact, in my prediction, I am giving Barack Obama 4 states that are polling barely Republican (Alaska, North Carolina, Georgia, & Nevada), and one state (Florida) that is polling as a dead heat. I do this not just as an optimist, but as a calculated belief that African American turnout among newly registered voters in North Carolina and Georgia will tip the scales in Obama’s favor. I also believe that low turnout among evangelicals in Florida caused by a lack of interest in McCain and a lack of Senate and Governor contests will give Obama the leg up he needs. In Alaska, I believe that the Anti-Ted Stevens (bridge to nowhere guy) vote will turn the tide for Barack. In Nevada and Indiana I am banking on general trending toward the political middle in these states that will be more accepting than ever of an African American candidate.

As far as states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado and New Mexico, I belive that Barack Obama is such a strong candidate with all the support he needs falling into place in the last few weeks, that he will have no problems carrying these once “swing” states. Overall I am predicting a disgusting landslide of a trouncing that the GOP will not soon forget, oh no, they will not. And neither will we. Republicans will whisper angrily about this election for decades to come. With any luck we will be able to not only win over 60% of the American people with the progressive agenda, but also create an educated and informed population that will vote progressive in percentages that approach 70% in the future. Popular support through engagement, instead of through fear…..weird.

I can proudly report that the Oil companies will take much less of my money than ever before, and I can still take road trips in the summer!

For all of you out there still getting 15 miles to the gallon, are you looking forward to $6.00 a gallon gas next year?

For the Congress, For the Party, and For our Future

Photobucket

Hillary Clinton is a skilled politician with policy positions that any Progressive should respect. I do not think she represents the CHANGE that Barack Obama does, but she is politically powerful. If the ticket is Obama/Clinton ‘08, the voter turnout nationwide will be monumental. Like it or not, Hillary Clinton has a base, a strong base, about a quarter of which probably would not vote for an Obama ticket without Hillary on it. The dividends that would be paid in the form of plundered Republican Congressional seats, would be critical in making sure we can shove our agenda down John Boehner’s throat.

Another benefit of this ticket is that not only have the Democrats already registered hundreds of thousands of new Democratic voters in the primary alone, the future GOTV operations of an Obama/Clinton ticket could be a watershed event in US politics. If we can involve and excite a new generation of Democratic voters, we could reap the benefits for decades to come. For the Party.

I think that Barack Obama could beat John McSame in the General election, even if he tapped Dennis Kucinich as his VP, but the 65 percent of the American People who are enlightened would not be united in disgust against the Republicans. For our Future, I think that all progressive people should unite behind the idea of an Obama/Clinton ‘08 ticket. Even you Hillary.

U.S. at War With Iran!

Photobucket

Proxy War - noun; a war instigated by a major power that does not itself participate

For all of you out there who don’t quite understand this concept, I am going to try to spread some TRUTH. First I am going to start with a statement: Powerful Corporate and Governmental interests amplify racial and religious differences in the world population to start wars that fulfill a purpose, not for the People of a country, but for their own interests usually including power and money.

Sound crazy? Right now in the city of Beirut, Hezbollah’s telecommunications network has been declared illegal by the US-backed Lebanese Government. Hezbollah is backed largely by Iranian donations and this pisses us off. As you can imagine, this goes back to that pesky “Sunni/Shia” thing… One day they are neighbors, they serve together in the Lebanese Military, but powerful interests like the US and Iran are shitting on a hornet’s nest. As you can imagine, this is even worse than stirrin’ up a hornet’s nest. This is a proxy war, and just the latest example of such.

WAKE UP! We are one human race, and we are in this together wether you like it or not.

Rev. Wright, Patriotism: Hillary will sell her soul for Presidency

Photobucket

I hate my country. And I love my country. I hate that my country exports war under the guise of Democracy. I hate that my country has taken away my civil liberties, claiming that they are protecting me from terrorists. I hate my President. But I love my country. I love that our Founding Fathers committed Treason against the British Throne to protect their freedoms. I love my country for all of the opportunities it has provided me.

Don’t you fucking people understand?

YOU CAN LOVE YOUR COUNTRY AND HATE IT AT THE SAME TIME !!!

This is bullshit and you are all eating it up! Yum, yum, mmmm…. You think what Reverend Wright said was “Un-American”? If Hillary Clinton and the Republicans can get you to swallow this steaming pile of scat, then we are truly fucked. If Hillary Clinton steals this Primary Election and Obama is leading in all the numbers, and votes, and delegates, I swear to the Sun above I will go absolutely APE SHIT. Do you know that there are people out there who think that Barack Obama should drop out? HE IS AHEAD IN EVERY MEASURE!

Wake up you country bumpkin retards. He is not Muslim, He does not hate this country, He will not rape your wife.

But go ahead, Hillary, don’t comment on wether or not you know if he is a Christian. Go ahead and say Rev. Wright would “never be my Pastor”. Go ahead. Take the low road. Lie. Cheat. Steal. It’s what the country expects after the last 7 years, you’ll fit right in. And if all else fails, claim he was high on cocaine and tried to rape you, that will really get the “white fear” going.

Indiana Campaign Trail ‘08: Total Obamanation

Photobucket

Plainfield High School
709 Stafford Rd.
Plainfield, IN 46168

That’s right folks, hes coming to… Plainfield! Plainfield? Really? Ok,… well I am excited about it. I was born and raised only 5 miles from the town and lived there for 3 years. I was also lucky enough to actually get a ticket, which is incredible considering they were gone in 30 minutes! I think this is indicative of the excitement that surrounds this man, this myth, this Legend.

More to come…

Update:
Photobucket
It was an early morning for my standards. A dreary and overcast day only hours old, typical of a late winter day in Indiana. A light drizzle fell as I drove from Indianapolis to my former stomping grounds in rural Hendricks County, Fred and I were on our way to meet friends at an old hangout of ours: SunshinE Cafe. After getting my license at 16 all of my friends and I would meet at this local cafe before school to smoke cigarettes, eat a greasy fried breakfast, and enjoy being young before we were reminded that school was about to start. Unlike then, Politics was the topic of conversation now eight years later. I even heard other patrons’ muffled exchanges about the excitement of the day, a very anomalous event in this sleepy midwestern town. Barack Obama was in town, and that’s where we were headed after breakfast. As we approached the Plainfield High School, the first thing out of place was the increased police presence. They were not directing traffic, only sitting in their cars just surveying the situation since the traffic was not bad at all. People had arrived early, very early. We parked and headed toward the gymnasium while the cars calmly and steadily filled up the parking lot. It seemed that there was a fog of excitement and camaraderie, I think Democrats were just happy to see that they were not alone in this very Red county. We waited for more than an hour before Barack Obama came to the podium. When he did the crowd was very gracious in their applause, me included. He spoke for about 30 minutes saying many things I had heard before and a few that I had not. He then opened the forum to questioners in the audience. It was apparent that these were genuine questions specific to what these individual people were concerned about. His responses were careful, but genuine. I am convinced that those are two traits that are imperative in our next President.

Our Next Foriegn Policy Blunder?

Photobucket

Remember South America? You know, where we have been battling leftist separatists for 45 years? In fact, Columbia is the only country who receives US aid from Anti-terrorism coffers, that is not battling Muslims. There has been somewhat of a Leftist Revolution with Socialist-leaning Presidents elected to office in Ecuador, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. The problem is that squeezed in the middle of all this is Columbia. There is little debate that Columbian President Uribe is a tool of our continued political meddling in South and Central America. In 2001 we gave them $1.3 Billion dollars, 80% of which was marked for “Counter-Narcotics” and allowed for up to 1,000 U.S. military personnel for “Training” purposes. HAhaha, yeah right. In fact, Columbia’s Police Chief General Oscar Naranjo stated that: “it’s no secret” that his country’s agencies enjoy “a very strong alliance with federal agencies of the United States,'’ but did not elaborate.

All hell broke loose a couple days ago when Columbian President Uribe ordered an air strike on a separtist rebel camp in the neighboring country of Ecuador. Only, Ecuador is a sovereign nation, AND YOU CANT DO THAT! Now that the U.S. did it in Iraq, now everyone can do it? I guarantee you that Bush will screw this up, in one way or another. As a consequence the “New Left” leaders that surround Columbia have united in outrage. Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa have ordered troops to the border with Columbia and I don’t think its a joke.

I know that the United States thought they could kill two birds with one stone in Columbia. They thought they could fight the “drug epidemic” and help kill those damn “leftist gorillas” still running around in South America all at the same time. Well, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Ecuador have a message for us and the world: ATTACKING SOVEREIGN NATIONS IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN SOUTH AMERICA. I think we should listen. I think we should let them run their own county, and we should move the 1,000 U.S. soldiers in Columbia to the U.S.-Mexico border if they are really worried about drugs entering the country.

Barack Obama is the Black Messiah

barack

“These dead shall not have died in vain, this nation shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.” - Abraham Lincoln, 11/19/1863

Don’t tell me he doesn’t have enough experience, don’t tell me he hasn’t been a Senator long enough, do not tell me he has not won enough campaigns. Your arguments are hollow, your criticisms are biased, and your attacks are unscrupulous. This democracy was created by the people, for the people of this country. There are 3 requirements to be President of The United States, they are as follows:

-be a natural-born citizen of the United States
-be at least thirty-five years old
-have been resident in the United States for at least fourteen years

Do not think that these “lax” requirements were placed there by accident. The Founding Fathers were sending a message. In these Unites States, almost anyone can become president. This is a basic principle that this country is founded upon. We are all equal and we all have value.

“History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be un-lived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” - Maya Angelou

We must realize that just because we have always had candidates that were disengenuous, and haggard by the system, that idealism and magnanimity can prevail. That we can unite as one. That we can find common ground, and that if liberals make a principled argument and have facts on their side, that we can make a difference. We can shift thought, that we can enlighten the masses, we can convince all people that we are right. We can convince them that our ideals are genuine and glorify the humanism that this country was built on.

Vote. Vote for Barack. Vote for your Future.

Iowa Campaign Trail ‘08

brack1

Earlier this month I embarked on my 6th cross-country trek and even made time to see B-Rock in Iowa on the eve of the Democratic Caucuses. It was very cold in Iowa that night, and we had nearly ran out of gas earlier in the evening, lost in the Iowa countryside. A quick knock on a farmhouse door secured us the gas we needed to reach our destination. I offered the gentleman ten dollars, but he refused, happy just with his good deed.

Soon we were pulling into a high school parking lot in Des Moines, Iowa. The hustle and bustle around me was proof that we had found the right place. I did not know what to expect, but was happy to discover a warm, energetic, and content crowd waiting to see what might be history. I have realized that to be in those moments when you realize you might be witnessing history, you must put yourself there. Seeing it CNN is not the same, and the odds of history falling into your lap is minute. What transpired resembled a pep rally more than anything. There were people leading chants and “openers” warming up the crowd for Barack Obama. I had staked out a position close to the podium hoping I could tell if he really meant what he was saying. He finally came out and said all the things the crowd wanted to hear, and most of the things I wanted to hear. He talked about restoring Habeas Corpus, and bringing equality and cooperation to the country. He spoke of education, foreign policy, and the middle class but only in broad terms. I wanted to be insouciant. I wanted to be skeptical. I became somewhat moved. He has a way of speaking that has not been shown at debates and on Sunday morning talk shows. He was genuine and fun to watch. I am not sure if Barack Obama is the BEST candidate for President, but I certainly believed him. More than anything, he made me believe he would TRY.
